During the last few weeks of 2017, accommodation mogul Airbnb acquired the fledgling startup Accomable – a company similar in mission to Airbnb but focuses entirely on disability-friendly listings. According to TechCrunch.com, Airbnb will invite individuals with listings on Accomable to transfer onto the Airbnb website instead. The first area of development includes listing properties with wheelchair accommodations, although the company said it hopes to expand on other accessibility requirements in the future. Co-founder and CEO of Accomable Srin Madipalli, who suffers from spinal muscular atrophy and makes use of a wheelchair himself, told TechCrunch.com that “one of Accomable’s biggest issues up to now has been that demand for places has far exceeded the supply of available listings.”
